Semi-Monochromatic Sailor Girl

Welcome Back Everyone!

I wanted to share with you a card that I created recently using a sketch that our own lovely Kathi created back in December 2011. You can see all of her great sketches compiled thus far right here! Kathi is always creating fresh new sketches that you can play along with in the Bombshell Forum as well! As part of the challenge you have a chance to win something!

This card features the Bombshell Stamps Ahoy There set, Kathi's December 2011 Sketch and Spare Parts' teal brads. (I found mine at Hobby Lobby.)

Anyways, I hope you love this sketch as much as I do. (Check out the sketch challenge in the forum! Its always fun to see what everyone comes up with!)

Cheers!

Paper Roses - Paper Roses!!!!

There have been several beautiful flower tutorials provided by some of our other Bomsbshell gals.

http://bombshellstamps.blogspot.com/2012/03/bombshell-tutorial-paper-rosettes-and.html
http://www.bombshellstamps.blogspot.com/2011/10/paper-flower-tutorial.html
http://www.bombshellstamps.blogspot.com/2011/05/how-did-she-make-those-roses-tutorial.html

But hey... there can never be too many flowers! You can make them with scraps, white paper you have stamped on, newspaper, etc.... As long as you have a Nestie or Punch.

Choose your image and your paper and cut out several versions. Then, start cutting away one petal at a time on each. So the first one has one petal gone, the second one 2, etc...

Add some tape

Tape the two petals of the cut edge on top of each other

Curl each petal back
Repeat as many times as you want layers. The one on the left is a slightly smaller one than the previous step.  For one leave completely full and score between petals, and just cut between one petal to make it open (one on right).

Once you are done, put tape between them and then stack them. Do NOT put tape on the bottom of the cones. See next image.

This is a side view... You can just see the hole I punched in the middle with a sharp stick. :-)
You can also see the one petal that isn't quite taped down on the outermost... that is because I will slightly overlap them when I put it on my project and tape that side down.

Now - stick something in the hole. :-)  You can use flower soft, you can use rhinestones, glitter, etc...

This is the finished product. Once I had it completed, I added some Stickles (crystal) to the edges to make it shiny. I then took the saying from Rose's Portrait, and a butterfly from Butterfly Queen (stamped twice and colored) and added it to the card. TADA!

The wonderful thing about this is these paper roses can be made any size... you can use different shaped dies or punches, and you can make them out of scraps.

I hope you had a good time, and that you come back and join us for the Blog Hop on Wednesday! Also - check out our challenges this month. You could win some free rubber!!!!

Have a great weekend - Alaine

Butterfly Queen: One stamp: 3 Projects

Good day my Bombshell Beauties.

The sun is shining here today so I thought I'd share my latest creations.

I predominantly make cards, but like to try new things.

I set my self the challenge to use one stamp, one colour scheme
and create three very different projects.

The stamp set I chose was my current favourite Butterfly Queen
I adore this set as it has so much to offer.
The pin up is in a fabulously sexy pose, and there are two full butterflies, and a set of wings.
So much potential, it certainly gets my creative mojo working overtime.

On with the show.

I started by making a basic card.
I cut a tag from copic card using Tim Holtz tag and bookplate die
Then rather than just colouring the image,
I stamped it, then added a clear mask over the top.
I used a clear mask as I wanted to see the contrast.
I misted it all over with Tattered Angels glimmer mists in Old Lace <3, Vintage Pink, and Creme de Rouge
I edged the tag with DI Black soot.

Once happy with the background, I coloured her with Copics.
I made flowers using TH die glassine paper sprayed with glimmer mists, and crumpled.
The frame around the sentiment is from the tag and bookplate die, again sprayed with glimmer mist.
Added a few embellishments and sparkle and Ta dah, all done.

My second item is a pendant :)

I die cut my shrink plastic using Nestabilities.
Stamped Butterfly Queen with stazon then masked her.
I reached for my trusty Tattered angels glimmer mist and sprayed lightly.
This is important as colours become much more vibrant once shrunk. I wanted to end up with a colour similar to the previous card.

I shrunk the plastic with a heat gun until it was fully shrunk.
I covered the stamped side with glossy accents, and added a butterfly at the top to act as an anchor for the chain.  Then while glossy accents were still wet I very gently tapped Perfect pearls around the edges,
A gold leafing pen would be better, but I don't have one.

Here she is all dry and finished

My final item is a gift I made for a friend who has been incredibly supportive over the last few weeks.

I have always admired, but never made a Gothic Arch or Triptych card, so decided to give it a go.

I used Ink stains with Roni's template

I covered both sides of the template with patterned paper that came free with a magazine.
and decorated it to look like a fairy forest.

I coloured Butterfly queen with copics, and masked bright pink wings onto her.
I used lots of magnolia die cuts
All of which I either cut from matching papers or tinged white paper with DI Worn lipstick.

I edged the whole thing with tissue tape, added a ribbon to hold it together, and finished it with a rosette and a pre made greeting which reads with love.

I finished it with stickles and sparkles.
I hope you like it

Bombshell Angel Bride

Today I created a Wedding card using the fabulously flexible Bombshell Angel.

I love to add fabrics and nets to my cards for added interest.  This time around I fashioned a Wedding dress.

To create this card I used

Stamp sets: True love dove from Til Death and Bombshell Angel
Coloured with Copics
Vintage seam binding in Beige Rose
Glossy Accents
Plus a pearl buckle and self adhesive pearls from Wild Orchid Crafts

I hope you like it.
Please feel free to ask any questions :)

Tic Tac Toe Challenge

A little late to the party due to technical difficulties but here's my go at Jennie's cool 'Bingo Card' challenge. I chose Red, Roses and Pins

This is my debut of the no lines colouring technique where you use a pale ink instead of trad black to stamp your image. I did have a little go before but decided to throw my lot in and do Retro Cowgirl AND the roses in this style!
Well I did OK I think although I it's something which I feel I need to practise, to become more comfortable with- it's definitely different from using black ink to stamp with!
I relied on the darker shading to create an outline, something which was tricky with the roses as there are so many edges on a rose petal!!
I went a bundle on Bombshell Stamps too as I used the cowgirl from Retro Cowgirl, the poem and sentiment from Rose's Portrait, the roses and scroll decoration from Dead Necessities , a banner from Banner Sayings , and a  swallow from Love and Luck!
I created a decorative pin for the card using a pin (!) and some pearls glued on with Glossy AccentsI also broke out my new Spellbinder Nestabilities, Floral Ovals which are so perty!!
Thanks to Jennie for the ACE May challenge I loved it!
Happy Crafting everyone!!

Bombshell Girl Spotlight!

It's Alaine Medio's time to bask in the Bombshell Girl Spotlight!

Here's her interview!

When did you become a full Bombshell Girl?
I became a full Bombshell Gal about a year ago (well a year ago when I filled this out :D) April 2011. Ms. January 2011.

Has/have your favorite Bombshell set(s) changed since you started on the team? If so, what are your favorites now?
I think my favorite originally was Sugar Skulls. Now - Hmmmm... I tend to gravitate to the Bombshell Angel with her dress up clothing and the Butterfly Queen's butterflies are used quite a bit.

What new techniques have you tried and/or learned as a result of being on this team?
I have mod podged. I have played dress-up and made my own clothes for the Bombshells. I have done a few other things... and etched on glass. Every month I get a new challenge and move forward and try something. Altering is a bit difficult still, but I keep on trying. I would say that other than Staz-On which I truly believe is a devil's tool, the one that was the hardest for me to finish was the shabby chic card. WHEW...so many elements and fussiness. I ADORE how it turned out, but it probably took me longer than any other project.

Has your style changed and/or evolved since you started with the team? If so, how?
I don't think it has. I love symmetry, color, bling - not necessarily in that order. I think the biggest change has been experimenting with quirky sayings and using the text generator to type those sayings out. If anything, the Bombshells have challenged my coloring skills and let me try new techniques with those... I now use more layers of color than I did when I first joined the team. Oh and I cannot leave the sketches in the orientation that Kathi draws them in. I have to change them most days.

Do you follow any special "design rules"?
I do find myself doing the left top to right bottom focal points. Oh and did I mention I like symmetry and balance? That is what will bother me more than anything on a card - is something not balanced. And usually that means symmetrical with elements too... not just balancing white space with no white space.

Where and when do you find inspiration?
I usually find it in a quirky saying or in a song. A couple of Bombshell cards I have made with song lyrics - (Hot Rod Lincoln was one). And I take a lot of things very literally and that leads to some pretty fun cards (a couple of which ended up being my favorites below).

How do you regain your lost mojo?
Lost mojo -- that is a hard one. Usually I color up different things and then rip them up if they don't speak to me. Eventually something I am coloring shouts at me at the same time as a song comes up on my ipod or on the radio, or some weird saying on tv strikes me funny and I go on.

I asked Alaine to choose her three favorite projects and explain why they're her favorites.

Here are my three favorite projects - today at least...

1. Koi Sketch - This is one of my favorite cards ever. EVER. The paper being all matchy, and multiple, and the embellies, and the layering of the color on the Koi all going together. And yes, I rotated the sketch. :D

2. Wonder Woman - doo do do dooo!!!!!!!

3 - And speaking of bones - This is my third card - my Inner Bombshell. I made this for a Bombshell challenge to let loose your Inner Bombshell. Yes - I took it Very literally. I still giggle when I look at it. I have it sitting on my desk at work and it is definitely a conversation piece.

Now that you've learned more about Alaine and seen her fabulous artwork, be sure to check out her blog, her Bombshell Gallery, and her interview from when she was Ms. January 2011!

Altered Tin Tutorial

Hi All,

Rachael here with a cute altered tin tutorial.

Enjoy!

***

Tools
Tin with clear top (I am using the Grundtal Container from Ikea.)
paper
acrylic paint of your choice in color
crackle medium (I'm using Deco Art 1 Step Crackle Medium)
applicator or brush to spread the paints
distress color in either a matching or contrasting color to your acrylic paint
scissors
rubber stamps (I'm using the Bombshell Stamps Vintage Mermaid Rubber Stamp set Mermaid Treasure)
pen
permanent ink

*Note - my tin has a magnet on the back so I can stick it to the fridge. If you want to use a scrap tin that you have, such as an Altoids tin and you would like to add a magnet sheet to the back, magnet sheets can be purchased at your local hardware store. Usually they are adhesive backed or you can hot glue them to the back of the tin. There are also variations on this project such as laying down paint and letting it dry, sanding the peaks of the tin, then laying down a second coat of paint and wiping the second layer of paint away so that the second layer only sticks to the roughed up part of the tin.

Instructions
Lay down a coat of acrylic color onto your paper and let it air dry.

Once the paint has dried, lay down a coat of crackle medium. You want to let this medium go where it would like as the paper warps because the thinner the layer of the crackle medium, the smaller the cracks - the thicker the layer of the medium, the larger the cracks. Let it settle where it wants on the paper.

I set my paper on the stove under the fan to assist in the drying process. Let dry for 2-4 hours, depending on thickness of the coat you laid down.

Once your paint is dry you should start to see cracks appearing.

Work your distress ink or other ink into the surface. The ink will settle in the cracks.

Wipe off the excess ink from the top of the paint.  The ink in the cracks will remain.

Trace the top of your lid with a pen. Cut out the circle and stamp with permanent ink.

Wedge into the top of the lid, decorative side up. Fill tin with goodies, finish with decorative ribbon or raffia and you are done!

I hope you try this tutorial as I had a lot of fun doing it!

Cheers,
Xo, Rachael

Butterfly Queen Card

Hi Bombshells,
I thought I would share a card with you today, I was really pleased with how it turned out :)

I used Butterfly Queen stamp set.  This is such a great set, totally a must own.

To create this card I stamped Butterfly queen then masked and stamped the Butterfly wings from the set using Brilliance inks. Then coloured her with Copics.  When I had finished I added Stickles: crystal over her clothing and the wings.

To create the background paper I took a simple paper.  This one is from Kaisercraft Gypsy Sisters.
I wiped it with an anti static bag, and stamped with Versamark frost, then heat embossed him with silver.

I added Stickles in Mermaid to highlight, and make them pop.

The sentiment is a dome sticker which I attached to an MFTdie-namic Fishtail

I hope you like it.

Here are a few more pictures :)
